New Members : Edward Mazenc (ETHZ, M. Gaberdiel’s Group) & Florian Schweiger (UNIGE, H. Duminil-Copin’s Group)

26 Oct 2023

Edward obtained his PhD at Stanford, where he focused on the emergence of spacetime in low-dimensional string theories from a quantum information theoretic perspective. His recent work in collaboration with Prof. Rajesh Gopakumar, begun during his first postdoctoral appointment at the University of Chicago, provided a detailed derivation of the “simplest gauge/string duality”. This establishes an exact equivalence between matrix integrals and certain topological strings. From a mathematical perspective, it provides an interesting connection between random matrix theory and intersection theory on the moduli space of curves.

Florian obtained his PhD from the University of Bonn, and then had a position as a postdoc at the Weizmann Institute of Science. His research interests are in probability theory and analysis, with a main focus on stochastic models for interfaces.
