Frontiers of Science Awards

At the ICBS 2023 in Beijing, several SwissMAP members won Frontiers of Science Awards.

 

"The International Congress for Basic Science honors top research , with an emphasis on achievements from the past five years which are both excellent and of outstanding scholarly value. For the 2023 selection, scientific works in both basic and applied research are chosen in 34 areas of the three basic science fields (mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer and information sciences) represented at the ICBS.

 

A scientific achievement must meet the following three requirements to be considered: (1) it must have been published in the last 5 years; (2) it must be of highest scientific value and originality and have made an important impact on its area; (3) it must have been evaluated and accepted by scholars in its area.

 

Amongst them:

Hugo Duminil-Copin (UNIGE) and Vincent Tassion (ETH Zürich) with Aran Raoufi (Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques) for the Paper: Sharp phase transition for the random-cluster and Potts models via decision trees on the Journal: Annals of Mathematics (2019).

 

Alessio Figalli (ETH Zürich) with Xavier Cabré (ICREA and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), Xavier Ros-Oton (ICREA and Universitat de Barcelona), Joaquim Serra (ETH Zürich) for the Paper: Stable solutions to semilinear elliptic equations are smooth up to dimension 9 on the Journal: Acta Mathematica (2020).

 

Alessio Figalli (ETH Zürich) with Xavier Ros-Oton (ICREA and Universitat de Barcelona), Joaquim Serra (ETH Zürich) for the Paper: Generic regularity of free boundaries for the obstacle problem on the Journal: Publications mathématiques de l'IHÉS (2020).

 

Matthias Gaberdiel (ETH Zürich) with L. Eberhardt (ETH Zürich), R. Gopakumar (International Center for Theoretical Science) for the Paper: The Worldsheet Dual of the Symmetric Product CFT on the Journal: Journal of High Energy Physics (2019).

 

Peter Hintz (ETH Zurich & University of California, Berkeley at the time of the paper) with András Vasy (Stanford University) for the Paper: The global non-linear stability of the Kerr-de Sitter family of black holes on the Journal: Acta Mathematica (2018).

 

Georgios Moschidis (EPFL) for the Paper: A proof of the instability of AdS for the Einstein-massless Vlasov system on the Journal: Inventiones mathematicae (2023).
