Vincent Vargas speaker at ICM 2026

28 Jul 2025

Vincent Vargas will be speaking at ICM 2026.

Vincent Vargas speaker at ICM 2026 The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), first held in 1897, is the largest and most prestigious international gathering in the field of mathematics. Organised every four years, it brings together mathematicians from around the world to present their work, exchange ideas, and celebrate major achievements in the discipline. Vincent Vargas is a French mathematician and Associate Professor at the University of Geneva.

He earned his PhD in mathematics from Université Paris-Diderot under the supervision of Francis Comets. After holding a research position at the CNRS, he joined the University of Geneva in 2021.

His research focuses primarily on Gaussian multiplicative chaos and Liouville quantum gravity, where he notably contributed to a rigorous probabilistic construction of Liouville field theory and the proof of the DOZZ formula. His work has been the subject of a feature article in Quanta Magazine. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Marc Yor Prize (2019) and the George Pólya Prize (2022).

Vincent Vargas will speak at the ICM 2026 about the equivalence between the probabilistic construction of Liouville field theory and the celebrated bootstrap construction used in physics. He is currently working on the harmonic analysis of Gaussian multiplicative chaos.
