About the Quantum Information Theory group 
They are a research group at ETH Zurich with research interests in quantum information theory, quantum cryptography, quantum computing, and the foundations of quantum theory. The group is part of the Institute for Theoretical Physics in the Department of Physics, and it is led by Prof. Dr. Renato Renner.

 

Project background

The position will be hosted by the Quantum Information Theory group led by Prof. Dr. Renato Renner at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and will involve close collaboration with experts in quantum algorithms and applications in the group of Dr. Stefan Woerner at IBM Research – Zurich, Switzerland.

Job description

Major responsibilities
Development of methods and algorithms for quantum computing aiming towards demonstrations of a practical quantum advantage. This can range from devising tools to leverage noisy quantum computers, like error mitigation or error correction, to algorithms and applications, for instance, in the areas of quantum chemistry, optimization, or machine learning. Involvement in the supervision of master students in seminars as well as semester and master thesis projects. 

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of three years.
