Next Kinetic Theory Seminar: On the magnetization of collisionless plasmas

10 May 2022

We are pleased to announce that the second talk in the “Kinetic Theory Seminar” series will take place at ETH Zurich on Monday 23rd of May.

This seminar series organized by Mikaela Iacobelli (ETH Zurich) and Chiara Saffirio (UniBas), aims at bringing together researchers interested in kinetic theory from the Zurich and Basel area. There will be one event per semester, alternating locations between the ETH Zurich and the University of Basel. Usually, the event lasts two hours, with the first hour introducing a topic and the second hour being more specialized and focused on recent results.

Next Kinetic Theory Seminar:

Date: Monday 23.05.2022

Location: on-site, Room G19.2 in the mathematics department at ETH Zurich.

Time: 14:00 and there will be a coffee break between the two hours.

Title: On the magnetization of collisionless plasmas

Speaker: Dr. Alexandre Rege (ETH Zurich, M. Iacobelli’s Group)

Abstract: Collisionless plasmas can be described with the Vlasov-Poisson system. After presenting some classical results concerning the existence of solutions and uniqueness for the classical Vlasov-Poisson system for electrons, I will describe how these results are modified and the proofs adapted when we consider an additional external magnetic field acting on the plasma. This is motivated by the study of fusion plasmas.

In a recent interview in the SwissMAP Perspectives Jounal (page 24), Chiara Saffirio talked to us about the seminars.
