How to get children interested in science?

3 Dec 2021

Curious about science and experimentation?

How to get children interested in science? Nothing could be easier now with PSCHITT! a collection of experiments recently published by the Espace des inventions, the University of Fribourg, EPFL and University of Geneva.

Between 2015 and 2018, Migros Magazine collaborated with various institutions in the French-speaking side of Switzerland to present different easy-to-perform scientific experiments every week. Nearly 200 experiments were offered by the Espace des inventions in Lausanne, KidsUni at the University of Fribourg, the Service de promotion des sciences at the EPFL and the Scienscope, including Mathscope, at the University of Geneva. These partners, in collaboration with the NCCR Bio-inspired Materials and supported by the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences (SCNAT), wanted to give this material a second life by publishing a book containing a selection of the best experiments and enriched further with additional explanations. PSCHITT! is the result is this collection.

Intended for all those who are curious about science and experimentation, as well as for primary school teachers who want to experiment in class (for children from around 6-12 years old), this book, with a preface by the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, is a must.

Easy to use, with clear and precise instructions, it contains all the information needed to transform a kitchen or a classroom into a natural science laboratory and to encourage children’s curiosity. A free copy of the book will be sent to primary schools in French-speaking Switzerland. With simple experiments that can be carried out with easily available equipment, everyone can take their first steps as a scientist. On more than 150 pages, PSCHITT! offers activities with hours of fun and learning.

In addition to the paper version, the book is also available online www.pschitt.ch
