Workshop on Topics in Three Dimensional Gravity

21 Mar 2016

Matthias Gaberdiel together with Glenn Barnich, Atish Dabholkar, Jan de Boer, Alex Maloney, M.M. Sheikh-Jabbari are organising the Workshop on Topics in Three Dimensional Gravity. The workshop will take place at the ICTP in Trieste, Italy in March 2016.

Gravity in three dimensions has rather special features which makes it particularly suitable for addressing questions related to the quantization of gravity and puzzles concerning black hole physics. AdS3 gravity and in particular AdS3/CFT2 has played a crucial role in black hole microstate counting, and more recently in studying holographic entanglement entropy and higher spin theories.

Topics include:

  • Asymptotic symmetry groups
  • Flat space holography
  • Black hole microstate counting
  • 3d higher spin gravities and their CFT duals
  • Entanglement entropy and AdS3 quantum gravity
  • Extended, massive and supergravities in three dimensions

Invited Speakers include:

  • Eric Bergshoeff (Groningen Univeristy)
  • Steven Carlip (UC Davis)
  • Alejandra Castro (Univeristy of Amsterdam)
  • Geoffrey Compère (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
  • Stephane Detournay (Université Libre de Bruxelles)
  • Gaston Giribet (Brussels & Buenos Aires Univeristy)
  • Daniel Grumiller (Vienna University of Technology)
  • Chethan Krishnan (CHEP, IISc, Bangalore)
  • Soo Jong Rey (National U. Seoul)
  • Joan Simon (Edinburgh Univeristy)
  • Jorge Zanelli (CECS, Valdivia)
