We introduce you to our member Tatiana Samrowksi (UZH, ZHAW).

27 Sep 2021

We would like to introduce you to our member Tatiana Samrowksi (UZH, ZHAW). Tatiana studied in Moscow and Münster, completed her PHD in Kassel and was the first woman to obtain her habilitation at the Institute of Mathematics in UZH. Tatiana's research belongs to the interface of numerics, computational science and interdisciplinary research problems. She also has an additional research focus in mathematical education and applied didactics.

Tatiana Samrowski is alongside Anna Beliakova, the Co-Director of The Junior Euler Society (JES) - the outreach programme of the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Zurich and part of the Science Lab of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNF) of the University of Zurich. JES offers six weekly, age-appropriate courses: U10, U12, U14, JES Olympics A, JES Olympics B and Early Studies. There are also intensive courses U18 and Programming, which are held on three Saturdays and Sundays in semester, respectively. In addition to regular events, JES annually offers summer and winter academies, which on the one hand promote the exchange between the participants and on the other hand promote in-depth discussion of mathematical problems. JES supervises graduation theses and organizes workshops at the Children's University and on Future Day.

Since 2020, Tatiana conducts the lecture "Extra Curricula in High School Education" for the UZH-students and high school teachers. Tatiana also participated in the 2021 ICMP Human Rights Session videos dedicated to Equal Opportunities, where she talked about the girls participation in the Junior Euler Society.
