From Research to Outreach (SRS, 19-24 Oct)

20 May 2025

Connexions between research and scientific mediation are a unifying theme for the Société Mathématiques de France and the Société Mathématique Suisse. It brings together researchers from all fields of mathematics. The aim of this conference is to enable researchers to create mediation content based on their own research, and to discuss the benefits that these activities can have on their research.

Highlights include:

  • Plenary lectures by leading mathematicians with extensive experience in scientific mediation.
  • Discussion groups between researchers and professional mediators.
  • Workshops (running throughout the week) led by a researcher/outreach expert pair covering different types of communication (presentations, press articles, videos, podcasts, workshops, etc.).

The event is sponsored by Fields Medalist Hugo Duminil-Copin, whose appearances in numerous media in recent years fully illustrate the importance of presenting mathematical research to a wide audience. The conference is aimed at researchers in all fields of mathematics and at all career levels.

The conference is organized in collaboration with the Société Mathématiques de France and the Société Mathématique Suisse.

The conference will start on Sunday October, 19 with the diner à 7pm and end on Friday October, 24 after lunch.

Full board acccomodiation (from Sunday dinner to Friday lunch) are coverged by the conference.

Registrations are now open on this page. From June 10th, registrations will only be accepted subject to availability.

Workshops

The workshops will be led by a mediator/researcher pair. They will last three or four half-days (the workshops will take place in parallel, with each participant choosing in advance which workshop he or she will attend throughout the week). Each workshop will focus on a different medium. Workshops are planned around the following themes Podcast (audio / video) Video / movies Comics / drawing Museography Press (in French) Theater and clown Activities / stand (e.g. Fête de la science)
