New member: Nicolò Defenu (ETH Zurich, GM. Graf Group)

8 Jun 2020

Nicolò got his PhD in SISSA (Trieste) on October 2016, with a thesis on the study of critical phenomena in long-range interacting system via the functional renormalization group approach. Then, he moved to Heidelberg for a post-doc position (December 2016 to March 2019). There, he worked in collaboration with experimental groups on the quantum dynamics of two dimensional cold atoms systems and on topological phase transitions. Lately, his interest are spanning from the quantum dynamics of long range interacting systems to critical phenomena on complex networks.

His most relevant publications on these topics are:

1) Quantum dynamics of low dimensional systems "

Quantum scale anomaly and spatial coherence in a 2D Fermi superfluid"

Puneet A. Murthy, Nicolò Defenu, et al.

Science 365, 268-272 (2019)

DOI: 10.1126/science.aau4402

2) Dynamical critical phenomena in long-range quantum systems

"Dynamical Critical Scaling of Long-Range Interacting Quantum Magnets"

Nicolò Defenu, Tilman Enss, Michael Kastner, and Giovanna Morigi

Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 240403 (2018)

3) Topological phase transitions:

"Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless Paired Phase in Coupled XY Models"

Giacomo Bighin, Nicolò Defenu, et al.

Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 100601
