The Mathscope monthly challenge

10 Dec 2020

The Mathscope philosophy is to manipulate first in order to understand better afterwards. It is with this in mind that Mathscope launches a new challenge on Instagram. Every month, an object and a challenge associated to it will be proposed on the Instagram account @mathscope_unige.

For December, Mathscope proposes an activity based on this image. By its pink color and by its shape, it looks similar to a doughnut but in mathematics it is called torus. This torus is very special and Mathscope will explain everything about it, but before, the challenge of the month consists of constructing a torus from a sheet of paper.

If you feel like sharing your creations through social media, don't forget to tag it @mathscope_unige or with the hashtag #mathscope_unige.
