Let's talk about outreach & Math'émerveille

4 Nov 2022

Last week the "Let's talk about outreach" conference took place at Les Diablerets! The aim of this conference was to bring together maths outreach specialists to discuss their practices, exchange ideas and create content. The result of this week was presented to the public during the first Math'émerveille festival, with its special Halloween edition, "Même pas peur des maths". This first edition was a real success and the participants present left delighted. It must be said that with eleven stands run by the exhibitors and specialists from all over the world (Scotland, USA, France,...), a show for young and old and an escape game, there was plenty to do!

Visitors were also able to take home a souvenir of the day thanks to a variety of raffles which took place during the day and offered the winners an original puzzle as a souvenir.

Some participants shared their experience

Vanessa 46 years old

Do you like maths? I don't really like it, I'm more literary.

What surprised you during your visit? I noticed that people who do maths ask themselves many more questions than I do.

What did you like the most? The puzzle.

What surprised you during your visit?  That there is maths everywhere.

Camille 15 years old

What surprised you during your visit? Pretty much everything, especially the puzzle stand, it's close to magic!

Vincent 35 years old

Do you like maths? More or less, I'm not passionate about it but it's a nice tool.

What did you like the most? The game and the manipulation

What surprised you during your visit? The diversity of what's on offer, it's amazing that there's maths behind it all!
