Einstein Lectures 2023 with mathematician Maryna Viazovska

6 Dec 2023

"In memory of Albert Einstein’s work, the Einstein Lectures, organized by the University of Bern and the Albert Einstein Gesellschaft, alternately cover topics from the fields of mathematics, physics and astronomy, as well as philosophy.

This year's Einstein Lectures are dedicated to the mathematical sphere-packing problem. How to pack spheres – such as oranges stacked in a pyramid – as close together as possible?

Ukrainian mathematician Maryna Viazovska will hold three lectures on this topic. Viazovska holds the Chair of Number Theoryat EPF Lausanne. In 2022, she received a Fields Medal, often described as the "Nobel Prize in Mathematics", for her work on the sphere-packing problem in 8 and 24 dimensions.

The Einstein Lectures will take place from December 4 to 6, 2023 in the auditorium of the main building of the University of Bern. The lectures will be held in English."
